The Joyful Life

THE JOYFUL LIFE

Join your Calvary Chapel family tomorrow (Sunday, 5/18, 10:00 a.m.) in the main sanctuary or on our website (www.calvaryinv.com

), Facebook, and YouTube (Calvary Inverness) as we start a brand new series in the book of 1 John (1:1-4).
John is the last living eyewitness to the ministry of Jesus Christ. All the others are gone, having been martyred for their faith. Each man stood tall and firm on the message of the gospel. Only John remains. He is elderly, experiencing the aches and pains of a long life.

He, the other eleven Apostles, and Paul knew that Jesus was alive. Therefore, they weren’t afraid of anyone or death. They believed Jesus had fulfilled every Old Testament prophecy regarding His birth, life, ministry, death, burial, and resurrection.

As John reflects on the flood of memories from those heady days, he also focuses on the reality that the church for which Jesus died and lives is under assault. Many have infiltrated the community of faith with heresies about Jesus’ humanity and deity. Men who are wolves in sheep’s clothing are drawing people away from the faith and wreaking havoc upon the body of Christ.

Therefore, under the influence of the Holy Spirit, John writes this letter to refute the lies. He relies on his eyewitness testimony that he had been with Jesus from the beginning, unlike them. He had heard His many teachings and witnessed multiple miracles, healings, and deliverances. He was present during Jesus' final moments when he was asked to care for the Savior’s Mother. Moreover, he was one of over five hundred to see, hear, eat, and drink with the resurrected Savior.

John wasn’t merely bragging about his time with Jesus. He emphatically wanted the church to understand that through faith in Jesus, each person could experience an intimate fellowship with the living God. The direct benefit of that union is joy that cannot be quenched or taken away—something that can only come through faith in Him.
In His Strong Love,
Pastor
