That You may Not Sin
THAT YOU MAY NOT SIN
Join your Calvary Chapel family tomorrow (Sunday, 6/1, 10:00 a.m.) in the main sanctuary or on our website (www.calvaryinv.com
), Facebook, and YouTube (Calvary Inverness) as we continue our series on the book of 1 John (2:1-6).
John wrote his letter to address two heresies that have taken root in the church. First, some taught that because of grace, one could live however one wanted without fear of judgment. Second, the other extreme was the belief held by those who promoted the lie of perfectionism, which asserted that those who trusted Christ for forgiveness had their sin removed and could not be tempted to sin again.
Therefore, John refutes the lies of lawlessness and perfectionism, stating that although the power of sin has been broken for the believer due to Jesus’ death, burial, and resurrection, the temptation to sin will persist until Jesus returns.
Inspired by the Holy Spirit, John writes that it is possible to live a victorious life over sin. Sin may be present, constantly enticing, searching for a foothold, and attempting to deceive the believer into compliance, thereby causing them to fall from their secure position in Christ. Nevertheless, when one surrenders their life to Christ by faith and thus becomes one with Him, the believer can experience His resurrection power in their life.
In His Strong Love,
Pastor
